Article in June/July 2013 Brighton First Newsletter
Deacon Loretta, Pastor Paul and I
have spent time coordinating our calendars for this summer. We work to make
sure that in the midst of vacations, trainings, mission trips, conferences and
family celebrations, that clergy are present for the busy ministry of Brighton
First.
While our Crossroads program and
full Sunday school program take a summer break, many ministries continue
strong. The United Methodist Women will host a rummage sale and salad luncheon.
We will send mission teams to Cass Community Social Services in Detroit, the Appalachia
Service Project and Red Bird Mission in Kentucky. We will welcome Kerby
Desmomes from Haiti to be in ministry with us in July. We will host over 200
children for Vacation Bible School. The Men with Tools will continue weekly
meetings and I will host a monthly book group. Our Sanctus gatherings will
continue to meet off campus in area restaurants.
On our church campus, we will tend
our community garden and welcome people for dental care, AA meetings and
fitness classes. We will collect food for Gleaners, provide gas
cards for Love INC participants, and help foster parents with emergency needs.
On Sundays we will gather as a
community and worship the One who calls us to this transformational service.
Your clergy are present for you and
we give thanks to God for your gracious and generous presence in this community
and in the world. We look forward to worshiping and serving with you this
summer.
