Worship Leaders Meet to Discuss Their Role

In September a group from Brighton First, specifically trained for church leadership, met to discuss their roles as worship leaders. They have volunteered to be part of a Worship Leader team whose responsibilities include welcoming the Sunday morning congregation, offering announcements and offering the congregational prayer.

Bruce Stark offered suggestions for writing effective prayers. The group discussed the most compelling way to greet the congregation and offer announcements. They heard from Pastor Sherry that the goal is to sound prepared, but homey and comfortable.

This group of Worship Leaders received their training through the Lay Servant Ministries program of the United Methodist Church. Through the courses (15 hours over two weekends), Lay Servants learns skills in worship, prayer, preaching, leading small groups and United Methodist history.

Brighton First Lay Servants include: Bruce Stark, Bob Fuchs, Greg Guise, John Phillips, Carolyn Combs, Carol Kapustka, Stephanie Nichoff, Suzanne Everett.

If you are interested in becoming a Lay Servant and/or a Worship Leader at Brighton First, there is an upcoming training on Saturday, October 25 and November 8. Contact a Lay Servant or Pastor Sherry for more information.
