Easter 2013
Dear Friends,
It is not easy to walk in the dark. When a late-night trip
to the mailbox or a twilight stroll leaves us in darkness, we walk carefully.
We hesitantly put each foot forward, feeling for uneven ground or objects that
might block our progress. Our walk is slowed by our uncertainty.
On the road to Jerusalem, Jesus encountered persons who
walked in the darkness by what bound them, jealousy, hopelessness and pride.
Praise be to God that the light came in Jesus and still comes to us today.
With Jesus’ Easter resurrection we celebrate that the Light
has come and cannot be put out. In the light of Christ, we need not hesitate in
our prayers, our worship, our service or our acts of generosity. Even if we
cannot fully predict the route that our life’s journey will take, we have
confidence as we walk with Jesus, that he will light the way.
One way that the Risen Christ’s light and hope is made
available to many around the world is through the mission work of the United
Methodist Church. There are places where the burdens of hunger, disease and war
threaten to dim the “Light of the World.” It is in these places that the UMC
has committed to proclaiming the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. First United
Methodist Church of Brighton participates in the proclamation through our gifts
to the World Service Fund of the UMC.
This Easter, our special offering will support United
Methodist World Service. Our Easter gift will be used for projects in
education, medical care, agricultural training and emergency relief. We will
support United Methodists who work in places of need around the world,
including Sudan, Pakistan, Liberia, Haiti and the Czech Republic. Our gift will
underpin projects to relieve poverty in the United States.
Please prayerfully consider contributing to the United
Methodist World Service Fund with your Easter offering. Through it we will help
to strengthen evangelism efforts, stimulate church growth, enrich spiritual
commitment and bring the light of Jesus Christ. There is an offering envelope
provided with this mailing.
Easter Blessings,
Pastor Sherry
