March 10, 2013 Bulletin Letter
Dear Friends,
This Sunday we celebrate One Great Hour of Sharing. It is one of the six
church-wide Special Sundays of The United Methodist Church. The offering
underwrites the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s (umcor.org) “cost of
doing business.” UMCOR reaches out through worldwide ministries of food,
shelter, health and peace.
One Great Hour of Sharing ensures that the United Methodist Church is
quickly present in times of disaster. The relief arm of our church provides
emergency assistance, including food and shelter. UMCOR also works to care for
refugees and internally displaced people when there is natural disaster or war.
Giving to One Great Hour of Sharing enables UMCOR to keep the promise that
100 percent of each designated gift to a relief project goes entirely to that
specific cause.
Last year, United Methodist Churches around the world gave nearly $3
million dollars for One Great Hour of Sharing. Last year, our congregation gave
$979.
Through One Great Hour of Sharing, we share the goodness of life with
those who hurt, whether it be on the East Coast after a hurricane, in Japan
after an earthquake or in Eastern Europe where winter tests endurance. In all,
81 countries received assistance through UMCOR in 2012.
Please join me in supporting this important ministry
of the United Methodist Church.
Blessings,
Pastor Sherry
