March 24, 2013 bulletin cover
Dear Friends,
As we were planning today’s worship service we had a choice. We could either focus on the traditional event for Palm Sunday, Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, or we could offer a narrative of Jesus’ Passion. In recent years making this Sunday both Palm and Passion Sunday has become the norm in many churches, including our own. We remember the palms, but also the Last Supper, Jesus’ betrayal and crucifixion.
This change has come primarily because fewer people attend the Holy Week services marking Jesus’ way to the cross.
Today, we’ve decided to step back into the tradition of years past and celebrate Jesus as King, lifting our praise as an act of hope for God’s reign.
It is the prayer of your clergy and the worship team that considering “The Way of the Palms” will not be the only way that you mark this Holy Week. All are invited to attend worship on Holy Thursday at 7:00 and worship on Good Friday at noon or 7:00. If you are unable to be in worship, I suggest that you take time this week to read prayerfully through the passion narrative. You might try Chapters 22 and 23 in the Gospel of Luke.
By these acts of worship and biblical reflection, God will prepare our hearts to receive the Good News of resurrection on Easter morning.
God’s Blessings,
Pastor Sherry
