Dear Friends,
In 1936,
the United Methodist Church joined many other denominations in designating the
first Sunday in October as World Communion Sunday. For the last 76 years, we
have taken this Sunday to remember our connection to the church universal. We
are reminded that worship will take many forms around the world this day, and
no matter the language, the place or the songs sung, we are connected in Jesus
Christ. As we celebrate Holy Communion, we join Christian brothers and sisters
around the world.
In the
United Methodist Church all people are welcome to Christ’s table. You may
remember the traditional invitation to communion, “Christ our Lord invites to
his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live
in peace with one another.”
On this
day, as we join with many faithful around the world, we embody turning toward
Jesus, our source of mercy and forgiveness, and seeking to live in peace with
one another.
Blessings,
Pastor Sherry
