Dear Friends,
The
Christmas decorations have been in the stores for weeks, as has the Christmas
themed soundtrack. I would guess there is someone in this congregation that has
already started their Christmas shopping. As November 1 approaches, the days
grow colder and darker and we begin preparations for the Thanksgiving and
Christmas holidays.
The
pace will pick up as we attend and host dinners, buy and wrap presents, bake
cookies and decorate our homes. It is a joyous and exciting time. It can also
be exhausting.
I
would urge you to consider intentionally making Sunday worship a part of your
November and December holiday plans. On November 3 we will remember those who
have died in this past year. On November 10 we will honor our veterans.
November 17 and 24 are times for thanksgiving to God.
In
December, we will ask the question, “How would Jesus celebrate Christmas?” The
answer to this playful question, will prepare us for the celebration of Jesus’
birth.
The
Psalmist wrote, “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) As winter
approaches, we could be drawn to stillness by cozy warmth and quiet snowfall.
Unfortunately, that’s not how holiday celebration goes. Plan to find stillness
in worship, to rest in the presence of God. You will be blessed.
Blessings,
Pastor
Sherry
