On Sunday, April 15 at noon, Brighton First will hold a Church Conference in
our sanctuary. In the United Methodist tradition, a Church Conference is a
meeting of the voting members of the local church to decide matters that affect
the mission and ministry of the church. This Church Conference will be led by
our District Superintendent, Rev. Mark Spaw.
The Church Conference has been called for a
specific task. Members of the church are asked to vote whether or not to accept
the Vital Church Initiative Consultation Report, presented to the congregation
on March 15, 2015. The report lists five areas in need of improvement and outlines a
strategy for making changes. The areas are: Vision and Mission Alignment, Goal Setting
and Strategic Planning, Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Leadership
Development and Intentional and Focused Community Outreach. You will find
copies of the report in the Community Room.
The Vital Church Initiative Consultation Report is
the result of over a year of planning by the clergy and elected leaders of
Brighton First. The intention of the program is to strengthen the vital
ministry of our church to transform lives in the name of Jesus Christ.
In preparation for this vote, we have hosted five
“town hall meetings” inviting conversation concerning the prescriptions
contained the report. The Church Conference has one item on its agenda, a
ballot vote to either accept or not accept the Consultation Report in its
entirety.
Please join me in prayerfully approaching this vote. If
you are a member of Brighton First, please plan to be present at noon for this
crucial decision.
Blessings,
Pastor Sherry
