Are all the programs, missions and ministries at Brighton First in line with our mission and vision? This is a concern raised in the Vital Church Initiative report that we received in March of 2015. As a congregation we agreed to the task of Mission Alignment.
We are blessed that two gifted leaders in our congregation, Dr. Deb de Laski Smith and Mrs. Mary Jane Welton, have teamed up to assess mission alignment. They have begun the task with a survey that all board and committee chairs and mission and event leaders will complete. The survey asks church leaders to describe the work of their ministry in light of the mission and vision of the church.
There will be follow up with leaders and the mission alignment team will then make its recommendations. There are three possible recommendations for each program, ministry, mission and event at Brighton First. The Mission Alignment Team will bring these recommendations to the Administrative Board in April:
1. The ministry is in line with the mission and vision of Brighton First and continues as is.
2. The ministry is not completely in line with the mission and vision, but can be brought into alignment. The alignment team will speak to what changes are needed.
3. The ministry does not align with the current mission and vision and will end. In this case, the administrative board will work to see that a ministry is honored for the work it has done over the years.
There is a reason for this step toward increasing the vitality of Brighton First. Successful and growing churches know clearly what their mission and vision are and they commit to keeping the mission and vision before them in every thing they do and every decision that they make. Successful churches do not use precious volunteers' skills and energy on projects that do not advance the mission of the church.
Please keep Deb and Mary Jane in prayer as they complete this important task.
