Bulletin Cover Letter for August 12, 2012
Dear Friends,
This week, 12 missioners from our church and 3 from Arise United Methodist Church in Pinkney, will travel to Beverly, Kentucky to work at the United Methodist Red Bird Mission. They will assist with renovations of the main campus of the mission site.
Red Bird Mission and Medical Clinic have been providing ministries in the Appalachian Mountains since 1921. The mission provides a school, health and wellness education, community outreach, economic opportunity and community housing improvement.
The mission was started by the Evangelical Church (which merged with the Methodist Church in 1968). People in the Beverly area prayed that there might be a school to train area youth up through the 12th grade. The school has been in operation ever since. In addition, the mission provides a medical clinic, a local craft project, a Senior Citizen Center and senior citizen housing.
Each year, Red Bird Mission welcomes 2,500 participants to its work camps. Volunteers from all over the United States help to carry on the ministries.
This is our first mission team to serve at Red Bird. We are excited to be part of the long-time United Methodist effort. In addition, this mission experience is open to people of all ages, including families. Mission teams are assigned work based on energy and skill level. Please be in prayer for our mission team and for the people of the Red Bird Mission area.
Blessings,
Pastor Sherry
