First UMC of Brighton's Prayer Ministries

Bulletin Cover for March 3, 2012

Dear Friends,

You will find Prayer and Care Request Cards in the pew racks (yellow cards). Each week, people who attend worship fill out the cards with specific prayer requests and place them in the offering plate or give them to Deacon Loretta. What happens to the cards?

The first stop for a prayer card is Deacon Loretta. She shares the prayer requests with Pastor John and me on Monday morning when we meet to share pastoral care concerns. Your clergy keep the names and issues you share in our prayers.

The cards, if not confidential, are then given to the office staff who makes sure that names are placed on the email prayer chain and in the bulletin, if requested. This means that many more people are praying over your concern.

Finally, the non-confidential prayer requests are passed on to our Prayer Ministry Group that meets on Thursday mornings. This group intentionally lifts your prayer request. In addition, they pray together for the mission and ministry of the church.

If you would like to be a part of First UMC’s prayer ministry, you can join the email prayer chain by contacting the church office. You are also invited to attend the Prayer Ministry Group at 9:30 on Thursday mornings. If you would like to form a Prayer Ministry Group, see Deacon Loretta for assistance.

Another way to be active in the prayer ministry of the church to take the bulletin home and to commit to praying for the people listed and the ministries of the church. Prayer is powerful. In conversation with God, we are transformed, as is the world around us.

Blessings,
Pastor Sherry

  1. Rev. Parker, the closing lines of this posting are beautifully rendered and express a deep and abiding truth--"Prayer is powerful. In conversation with God, we are transformed, as is the world around us." Thank you for the reminder.
